I’m writing on this beautiful Earth Day to encourage you to make environmental issues a bigger priority. Having kids with asthma, our air quality issues in Utah are something we really need to address. These can lead to shortened life expectancy, miscarriage and stillbirths, and decreased quality of life.
Continue readingOn this Earth Day 2020, I want to thank you for caring about our environment and the work your office does. Protecting our earth is an issue both Democrats and Republicans think is important. How exactly that happens will take both sides to be willing to compromise and see the other sides point of view. I encourage you to keep engaging with the other side for the health of our children and grandchildren, and because God has entrusted us to be good stewards of the earth.
When it comes to global warming, I know there are things we can do personally to take care of the earth, but without the help of government on a wider scale we cannot get to where we need to be. Personally, I am a fan of carbon pricing to incentivize industries to create cleaner energy solutions.
I was my daughter’s age — 12 — when I found out about global warming while reading a magazine in my room in 1991. This was not long after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate almost issued its first report, which said that global average temperatures had already increased by .5°F and, if we continued to release greenhouse gasses, temps would go up by 1.8°F by 2025.
We’re up to about 1.9° now.
