‘I Want to See a Full, Fair and Unbiased Senate Trial Without Prejudice on Both Sides of the Aisle’

Dear Senators Lee, McConnell, and Romney,

I am a mother, Utah constituent who has voted in every election that I have been eligible to vote in for the past 42 years, a committed U.S. citizen, community volunteer who is concerned about the integrity of our republic and politicians respect for the U.S. Constitution. I have been following the impeachment proceedings closely via televised hearings, radio recordings and print news. I care deeply about the impeachment proceedings because I believe Congress needs to be a check on the executive branch as was intended in our constitution and should not become a partisan process. I want to see a full, fair and unbiased Senate trial without prior prejudice on both sides of the aisle.

‘No Man Should Seek to Circumvent the Full Process of Law’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am writing you to encourage you to thoroughly support a full, fair, and impartial trial of the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.  As a citizen of the United States, he should be accorded the right to a fair and impartial trial. As the president of the United States, he should be held accountable for his actions and have the right to have them reviewed in an impartial manner. No man should be above the law and no man should be denied the right to a full, unbiased trial. No man should seek to circumvent the full process of law.

I am a constituent currently registered as a Republican voter, mother, attorney, former teacher, community activist, patriotic American, and someone who has been contacting my representatives for years.

I have been following the news of the impeachment proceedings by reading a wide variety of news sources and reading the public documents.

I care about the impeachment proceedings because I love the United States, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and government of the people, by the people and for the people.

‘I Have Left the Party Because of the Deep Concern I Have’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am a voter in Utah who has affiliated with the Republican Party for my entire adult life, but I have left the party because of the deep concern I have regarding the actions of Republican lawmakers and leaders. The current degree of partisanship in Congress is unprecedented in my lifetime, and I am baffled by Republicans’ continued willingness to demonstrate blind party loyalty, especially when that loyalty conflicts with long-held conservative values.

I am a seventy year old Utahan and in all my years I have never been so fearful for the fate of the country I love. I have always voted but it has only been during this presidency that I have felt the need to contact my representatives on a regular basis. I have been shocked and saddened by the unethical, cruel and petty actions of our current president. His actions on Ukraine are just the tipping point.

‘It Will Take Moral Courage to Not Simply Decide as a Republican to Protect the President’

I am a registered Republican voter. I beg you to help make the Senate impeachment trial a full and fair process. This means (1) breaking with those in the party who seem mainly interesting in maintaining personal or party power; (2) encouraging senators on both sides to minimize specious arguments that merely delay proceedings and confuse the electorate, and (3) invite sworn, relevant testimony (e.g., from John Bolton).

‘We Are far Above the Pettiness That Has Become Part of the Political Process’

I have been following the news of the impeachment proceedings by listening to the hearings, reading a wide variety of news sources, reading the public documents, listening to various news sources and am disappointed in the partisanship the whole process was conducted. Please, as you participate in hearings in the Senate, please promote a full and fair impartial trial, subpoena and hear from sworn witnesses, and conduct the trial without prejudice and partisanship.

‘I Want to See Witnesses and Relevant Documents’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am a grandma who lives in West Jordan, Utah. I was in the USO during the Vietnam War and my husband was in the Navy. 

I remember watching the Nixon and the Clinton impeachment trials. This one strikes me as more like Nixon’s trial but the issues are even bigger. As much as I disliked the Watergate break-in, I never feared that Nixon was not a patriotic American. I didn’t fear that he was influenced by the Russians who were our enemy then and now.
