Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I grew up in the clear skies of SLC in the 60’s and moved to Southern California as a newlywed in the 80’s. The sky was grey there with pollution. People complained of chest pain. There was a large mountain range just 20 miles away that I NEVER KNEW EXISTED. Even on a clear day it was too smoggy to see more than a few miles. That’s like living in Magna and not ever seeing Mount Olympus and the Wasatch Mountains. And then it changed.

Slowly, to those who stayed there, but I moved back to Utah. Now when I visit I am shocked to see mountains and much clearer skies. IT CAN BE DONE! I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Pollution is NOT a one-way street.

In spite of population growth in that area, California reversed the direction of their climate through public policy. So can we.

Please prioritize cleaner transportation options, incentives for electric vehicles, and state and federal purchase of electric cars.

Please do what you can to reduce carbon emissions. Please! Utah is a beautiful state and beauty is healing and calming and we all need more of that.

Regards,
Jennifer (UT)
