Dear Senators Booker and Menendez,

I am a mother, a grandmother, a teacher, a patriotic American, a regular independent voter, and someone who cares deeply about the state of our democratic system. I have been learning about the impeachment proceedings by reading and listening to a wide variety of news sources as well as reading public documents.

I want to see a full and fair trial in the Senate because our democratic system demands it; each of the separate branches of government must hold the others accountable. By not allowing witnesses to testify, not allowing facts to be presented, not allowing the trial to go on as a fair trial, our democracy will be only a sham. The House of Representatives did what was required of them, what they were sworn to do to protect our democracy as are all lawmakers, all judges and justices, all presidents. Now it is the Senate’s turn to do what they were sworn to do and uphold the Constitution.

I believe that the best way forward is to allow witnesses on both sides and make the trial more transparent. Let the truth be told.

Furthermore, I would like to show that I agree with the enclosed statement on impeachment by Mormon Women for Ethical Government.

Sincerely,
Karen (New Jersey)
