‘I Have Been Overwhelmed With Worry About Our Country’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am writing to you again to encourage you to continue to act in a bipartisan manner and insist on a fair and full impeachment trial in the Senate. Judging from the House hearings, it is entirely clear that more witnesses and more documentation are required for the full proceedings of President Trump’s call in July to be clearly laid out and revealed.

‘Our Country, Our Constitution, Our Citizens Deserve an Ethical, Responsible Impeachment Proceeding’

Dear Senators Feinstein, Harris, and McConnell,

I am a long-term Californian, an Independent voter, a veteran, a mental health professional, a civic minded citizen, a father and husband.  I voted for you in the last elections.

Of course I have been following the news of the impeachment proceedings by listening to media and news organizations, reading the news, receiving information from my employer and union, and other organizations.

‘You Swore to Defend the Constitution Just as My Sons Did When They Joined the Military’

Dear Senators Booker, Menendez, and McConnell,

I am a retired teacher and the mother of two sons serving in the military. I have been following the news of the impeachment hearings by watching the live hearings and testimony in Congress and reading local and national newspapers. I care about how the impeachment proceedings in the Senate will be conducted and want to see a full and fair trial by impartial jurors and one in which witnesses are allowed to testify. When you took the oath of office you swore to support and defend the Constitution just as my sons did when they joined the military.

‘You and Your Colleagues Will Be Long Remembered for How You Act in This Moment’

Dear Senators Bennet and Gardner,

I am your constituent.

I am a voter, raising four children who will become voters — one of them for the first time this November.

I am a member of Mormon Women for Ethical Government, the nonpartisan non-profit group that arranged for the drop-off of this letter today.

I have been following the news of the impeachment since the whistleblower report was first made public. I have read a wide variety of news sources and listened to a significant portion of the House hearings. You face several important decisions in the coming days and weeks.

‘No Man Should Seek to Circumvent the Full Process of Law’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am writing you to encourage you to thoroughly support a full, fair, and impartial trial of the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.  As a citizen of the United States, he should be accorded the right to a fair and impartial trial. As the president of the United States, he should be held accountable for his actions and have the right to have them reviewed in an impartial manner. No man should be above the law and no man should be denied the right to a full, unbiased trial. No man should seek to circumvent the full process of law.

‘No One Is Too Young to Be Affected by the Decisions of Their Political Representatives’

Dear Senators Gardner, Bennet, and McConnell,

I am a seventeen-year-old constituent of Colorado. Though I am not considered old enough to vote now, I will meet the age requirements by the November elections. Of course, no one is too young to care about or be affected by the decisions of their political representatives, and I am certainly no exception.

I have been following the news of the impeachment proceedings by listening to the hearings, reading a wide variety of news sources, and discussing all of this with my family and classmates. You and I are alike in our exposure to diverse viewpoints concerning this matter.

‘I’m Concerned That the Minds of Many Senators Are Already Made Up’

Dear Senator Portman,

I have been following the impeachment proceedings very closely. I’m concerned that the minds of many Senators are already made up, before the proceedings in the Senate have even begun. Senator, I know you are a reasonable man. I follow your legislation through your website and through your Facebook page. I believe you will do the right thing and allow witnesses to testify at the impeachment hearing. I want to see a full and fair trial — complete with witnesses — because this is the only way to get to the truth of the matter.

‘Each Senator Is Required by Constitutional Oath to Be an Impartial Juror’

Dear Senators Lee, McConnell, and Romney,

I am a seventy year old Utahan and in all my years I have never been so fearful for the fate of the country I love. I have always voted but it has only been during this presidency that I have felt the need to contact my representatives on a regular basis. I have been shocked and saddened by the unethical, cruel and petty actions of our current president. His actions on Ukraine are just the tipping point.

‘It Will Take Moral Courage to Not Simply Decide as a Republican to Protect the President’

Dear Senators Lee and Romney,

I am a registered Republican voter. I beg you to help make the Senate impeachment trial a full and fair process. This means (1) breaking with those in the party who seem mainly interesting in maintaining personal or party power; (2) encouraging senators on both sides to minimize specious arguments that merely delay proceedings and confuse the electorate, and (3) invite sworn, relevant testimony (e.g., from John Bolton).
